Laila El-Haddad is a Palestinian journalist, author, blogger and public speaker from Saudia Arabia but was raised in Gaza City also. She has spoken at plenty of venues here in the U.S. about her transition from Gaza to the United States and about her two books "Gaza Mom" and "The Gaza Kitchen". The "Gaza Mom" is a detailed book about Laila's life in Gaza with her family, her struggles and just about everything she went through while there. The book is written in journal formatt because it's basically like her personal diary made into a public book for the world to read. Laila has won several awards for her blogs and has published things in the Baltimore Sun, The Washington Post and many other publications. Laila currently resides in the U.S. with her husband and their 3 children.
Laila's second book "The Gaza Kitchen" she wrote with her good friend Maggie Schmitt. Maggie is a writer, researcher, translator and social activist who has created and done many projects in Madrid and other places. She has taught at a number of programs, spoke at mutiple venues and written on food and culture for the Atlantic and other publications as well. Maggie grew up in Miami but now resides in Madrid with her significant other and their son.
